First Corpus-Based Material Experience
Hi again. I haven't posted anything on my blog in a while, and I really missed this. We took a class this year called ‘Current Issues in ELT,’ and one of the assignments we had to finish was ‘corpus-based.’ I completed the task individually. My topic was quantifiers (only many, some and a little). I prepared this worksheet for 9th-grade students in a public school who have some difficulties while making the distinctions of these quantifiers.
The idea of creating a new thing sounded appealing but it wasn't that appealing for me and I struggled a bit. There were many stages like designing the layout, creating exercises, deciding on a template, etc. It took a lot of time but it was totally worth it.
There are four activities on my worksheet. After completing the first activity, which checks the students' background knowledge, they will be able to recognize their areas of weakness and be encouraged to concentrate on them when practicing the subsequent exercises. The second one encourages using a corpus website. Students will be able to see the authentic forms of the targeted real-life usage after completing this activity. Students will be able to define the distinctions between quantifiers after the third test, which assesses what they have learned from the corpus work. In the final practice exercise, which is split into two sections—a reinforcement portion and a production portion—students will be able to identify the various grammar forms and use them to construct new sentence structures.
When implementing corpus-based activities in an actual classroom, some challenges could come up. These include students' limited understanding of corpus analysis, different levels of English proficiency, time constraints, technological issues, and motivation of the students. To ensure a successful and rewarding learning experience, proactive measures must be taken to address these potential problems if the use of such activities is desired.

Have a nice one.
